Here on the Meet the Maker series we want to introduce you to the local artist’s and creators in York Region. This week,  I invite you to meet Andrea of Easy Peasy Patches.

Tell us a little about your self and why you started Easy Peasy Patches.IMG_4307

I have two sons, ages 13 and 14, and a daughter who is 10.  When my boys were 4 and 5, they constantly wore through the knees of their pants.  I wanted a quick and easy way to mend their clothing.  I could not find anything on the market so I invented Easy Peasy Patches.  Easy Peasy Patches are permanent, stick on patches that require no ironing or sewing.  Just Peel, Stick & Wear!  They will stick to anything: from jeans and backpacks, to water bottles and sporting gear. They are super durable and will go through the washer, dryer and dishwasher. They are fantastic for accessorizing, decorating and mending anything!  While I invented Easy Peasy Patches as a solution to a ‘mom’ problem, my children, and their friends, quickly figured out that they are just plain fun!  We now have hundreds of designs and shapes ranging from our 2” Minis to our 8” x 5” Snow Pant patches. Because the patches can be coloured on and cut to any size, we also have Craft Kits so that kids can create their own patches and decorate all their belongings.  Lastly, we create custom patches for schools, sports clubs and businesses.

What was the biggest challenge you faced when setting up your etsy shop?

Setting up an Etsy shop is fairly intuitive.  I tend to be impatient and get frustrated with that type of task but I was able to figure it out.  That being said, I know that I could greatly improve my shop!  I think my biggest challenge is photography.  For some reason, taking good, high quality images is a challenge for me.   I know that I need to improve the pictures on each and every listing.  The other challenge I have had is the sheer number of listing required because I have over 100 designs.   I still don’t have them all listed.   As I write this, I realize that this needs to be a priority on my ‘to do’ list!IMG_3364

What is your best selling design and why do you think it is so popular?

Our ‘Emoji’ patches are very popular.  I think it is because the designs are super trendy and people can use them to personalize all their stuff.  ‘Poop’ seems to be the best seller overall.  I am sure what that says about my customers… ☺

Where do you work? Do you have a home studio set up or produce at another location?

I am lucky to have the flexibility to work from home and from an office.  My patches are produced at our printing facility but some days, when the weather is bad or the laundry is piling up, I park myself at my dining room table.

How do you balance parenthood with your business?IMG_3655

I don’t!  LOL.  I feel like I am always running and one step behind on all that I would like to do.  It helps that my kids were my impetus for my business and continue to be very interested and engaged in the development of the products.  They help me with everything from giving feedback on design ideas to modelling the patches, packaging custom orders and selling at craft shows.  Having them involved helps me stay passionate about the business.
What are your goals for 2017?

One of our main goals for 2017 is to expand the Custom sector of our business.  In the past, we have created patches for The Girl Guides of Canada, various summer camps and sporting clubs.  We recently partnered with Just Direct Promotions to help promote and sell our Custom Easy Peasy Patches.  I am very excited about the opportunity to grow the business with them!2017-Finalist
